Strangers

20 Jan 2021

Back in the autumn we released Morgan's 4th studio album, Strangers, an LP that ranges from instrumental, ambient music to more post-rock material.

Strangers started as an ambitious project that explored the idea of "anonymous intimacy," and the fragile boundary between intimacy and estrangement.  It was part travelling participatory art installation, part photo book and part letter exchange, all of which was put on hold when COVID hit. But, as our lives were put on hold and became ever more secluded, well, this record's themes became amplified by this 100 year event imposed on all of us.

As for Strangers, while COVID raged, keeping loved ones apart and distancing strangers who might have, under more normal circumstances become friends, we moved this project online to  http://morgandoctor.com/strangers. You'll see that on that page, against the background of the record, participants are invited to submit a missive to others. The note they write can be an open letter to humanity, a confession about love or the verbalization of one's heart's desire. Once they submit their message they will receive one in return from a random, previous participant. Everything is designed to be anonymous, creating a sense of intimacy among strangers. To date, hundreds of strangers have exchanged touching best wishes or sent their thoughts into the cloud.  You can also call or text "HELLO" to +1 7 STRANGERS (+1 778-726-4377).

Morgan herself was (and remains) in LA, the epicentre of the pandemic. She has been working on a slew of videos in support of the record. Having released a couple already contemporaneously with the LP (https://youtu.be/-w0iKCtaUF8), Morgan will be premiering her next video the first week of February with Wavelength.
